i just finished reading a terrible book because a dear friend bought it at dollar tree for the soul reason that it had to be terrible. my little brother got married last saturday. his new in-laws are still perstering me. my husband is asleep while i'm sleepless. oh, and i'm terribly sick due to a sudden lack of stress after at least three weeks of constant stress. my body has given out but my mind is awake.
seems like a good time to write.
now for the story
---------------------------
Lu watched the two newly acquainted people who were obviously attracted to each other idly and awkwardly dance around that very fact. The reasons for this dance were also as obvious as their mutual attraction. It was written in their posture, their eyes, their grooming and demeanor. He was probably a decade older, thus probably more experienced, possibly war-worn from previous relationships, maybe scarred, potentially jaded. She was young, fresh faced, inexperienced, naive. Lu almost wanted to laugh at their silliness and fear in approaching each other. She was going to agree to come down even before bribery, if only to escape the boredom. If she were truly being honest - even with herself - she would have admitted she loved Jasey dearly. Jasey had a quick wit that made Lu laugh and had taken the other half of the load in dealing with all of the ups and downs of her brother's crazy relationship with Emma before they had married. She had also made sure to keep Lu well quenched with her favorite beverage without question or request during her shifts. Without much by way of conversation, Jasey had proved herself a good friend. Lu welcomed the chance to pay her back. She just didn't want to make that obvious to these fools in like.
So she sat at the table, slightly more distant from it than the other two so as to let the focus remain on the two of them. They would talk to each other, by golly, even if she had to somehow force them to.
Lu cleared her throat, tugged at her coller, and deadpanned, "Is the sexual tension stifling in here or what? I think I'll go turn down the air conditioner. Excuse me."
She tried not to let her expression be affected by the shock and horror written on Jasey's face as she stood from her seat. The chair's feet squealed nastily as they dragged away from the table behind her legs' movement. She walked to the thermostat and lowered the temperature by one measly degree for show, making sure the thing at least kicked on audibly.
"Much better," she smiled pointedly at the blushing Dakota, who coughed into his elbow.
